Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch LogoNeighborhood Watch plays an important role in keeping any community safe. ARCN used to have an active Neighborhood Watch, but in the past few years, it has dwindled. As the new Safety & Security Board member, I am hoping to get the Neighborhood Watch program resurrected.

Many people think that Neighborhood Watch requires "spying" or "prying" into the lives of their neighbors.  It doesn't have to be that way. It's neighbors bringing garbage cans out to the curb for vacationing neighbors and then back in again after trash pick up. It's neighbors picking up the newspaper for out of town community members. It's neighbors hearing a car/truck pull up to a neighbor's house and taking a peak out the window to make sure it isn't a suspicious vehicle. At it's most basic level, Neighborhood Watch is simply neighbors being "neighborly."

The Folsom Police Department has a volunteer group that works closely with Neighborhood Watch groups around town. Once ARCN has re-established the Neighborhood Watch program, FPD will start sending e-mails about crimes in the area, suspicious activity in the area, and similar alerts to the Neighborhood Watch committee head. That person can then send out the e-mail to those people participating in the Neighborhood Watch program so we can all be alerted to known issues and crimes.

The ultimate goal is to have "blocks" of neighbors looking out for each other on a day-to-day basis to make everyone safer.

If you are interested in participating as the Neighborhood Watch committee chairperson, a "block captain," or simply as someone who wants to look out for your neighbors and get involved in the program, please let me know. I'd be pleased to speak with you and I know our community would welcome your time and assistance. I can be reached by e-mail at .

If you have any other questions or concerns regarding safety and security in American River Canyon North, feel free to contact me at the e-mail above. I look forward to meeting all my new neighbors and making ARCN a safer place to live.

Sincerely,
Dave C. Jones
